Shop Spotlight – Anything But Plastic
Every week I am going to spotlight a shop, business or product which I have found helpful on my environmental journey. It can be a challenging process tiptoeing through the host of products and services to determine which to spend our hard-earned cash on.
For our very first Shop Spotlight I am spotlighting a small UK company called Anythingbutplastic.co.uk . I came across this store during lockdown when we couldn't get out to shops to buy our normal products that aren't available in supermarkets.
Anything But Plastic is an amazing company with a wealth of information on their website. Each product is chosen with the rationale for it being selected explained. There is a wealth of information about the issues with plastic and the reasons why we need to reduce our use of it. It's written in a fun chatty style which is explanatory without being patronising or judgemental.
One of my other passions in life is to support small businesses. Often large corporations become focused on making money for shareholders at the expense of producers, staff and the environment. Many small businesses have a different ethos, and I therefore tend to support them when I can.
So onto my top 5 favourite products from this store
- Friendly lavender soap (other scents are available) which comes in a recyclable cardboard box, smells gorgeous and has no palm oil!
- Friendly shampoo bar which is like a bar of soap for your hair! No plastic packaging, no palm oil and just a few ingredients
- Conditioner bars – similar to above, hair conditioner in a bar - lasts ages too!
- Toothpaste – comes in a recyclable aluminium tube, contains fluoride and is super minty (there is a strawberry flavour for children).
- My final favourite is the paper tape. So useful when packaging up items sold via online sites. It tears easily, super sticky and contains no plastic! Plus, the double bonus is that it is made from recycled paper - so it's win/win/win!
Even if you don't shop in this store, it is really worth having a browse at all the useful information on the site. I definitely learned a lot.
